The actual function of a pawn shop is to make short term loans (usually 30 days or so) to people who can't get credit through more conventional means. They make the loan and take the item as collateral….and if the debtor doesn't pay back the money, then the shop sells the item.
Of course, they are not going to give "fair market value" for something….they've got to be able to sell it at a profit. I would hope that these people are intelligent enough to understand that if they want full value for their item, they'd need to go to a collector, or put it up for auction.
I would hope that the people on the internet would be just as intelligent, but I know that's a big ask.
