‘One of the oldest gravestones of a free Black person in America’ discovered in Boston

A team of conservationists has discovered and restored the grave of Sebastian, who was formerly a slave and died free in 1729.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said on July 4, “This discovery is possibly one of the oldest burials of a free black person in America.” speech. “It’s always been there. We just had to go and see the story and share it.”
