Call the dude a sword expert but the whole reason that the Japanese pounded their steel in layers is because the steel was incredibly poor quality so you had to reham it multiple times just to get the impurities out. Crucible steel is much stronger naturally, so no layering needed

The guy who traded for the silver made a VERY VERY VERY good deal. Silver around that time was trading at about $14/oz (2018 – Season 16)
Silver price today (2026) has been bopping back and forth between $80/oz and $110/oz. So worst case, at $80/oz…. 100 pounds of silver would be worth approximately $120,000.00
So if he still has that silver, he made an INCREDIBLE deal.
