Naples, Italy-la brujula verde Restoration work has been completed on a ceiling fresco that once graced a banquet hall in the Casa con Pacifico, or House with Bakery, in Pompeii’s Regio IX, reports said. The decorative fragments of the ceiling, depicting the union of the god Dionysus and Ariadne, were examined for the first time and reassembled in the laboratory. When conservators were able to determine the original positions of the fragments, the images were incorporated into a modular reconstruction of the curved, vaulted ceiling that will allow future researchers to continue the work as additional fresco fragments are identified. So far, conservators have identified fragments of a large central panel depicting Dionysus reclining in a chariot facing Ariadne, who plays the lyre. The scene was surrounded by small temples, decorative borders, garlands, dramatic masks, winged images talentedAnd metaphorical representation of the seasons.
