VERACRUZ, Mexico—Excavations at the Campo Viejo site in eastern Mexico have revealed a circular stone platform and an intact sculpture with possible Maya features, according to a Agence France-Presse Report. The objects have been dated to the Early Classic period between Advertisement 200 and 600. Lino Espinoza García of Mexico’s National Institute of Archeology and History (INAH) said the platform was built of rounded stones and decorated with square lines or shapes. “We have no record so far of a relationship with another [ancient] The site,” said INAH archaeologist Alberto Vazquez. The monolith is more than six feet tall and has images of two characters carved on it. “They have a bowl and they’re getting something, we think it’s a liquid,” Espinoza said, adding that he believes the image may have been created during a time of drought. Two people, one of whom has Maya features, are shown receiving a divine liquid – probably water – from a deity.
