Never-before-seen shark that ‘walks’ on land discovered off Papua New Guinea


Researchers have identified a new species of “walking shark”, a rare group of small carpet sharks that use their fins to “walk” on shallow reefs.

A team of divers spotted the newly discovered shark, which they named Hemicillium dijonae, In the deep waters around the reefs of southeastern Papua New Guinea. There was a small, brown-spotted shark gliding across the rocks that they could not identify.
