According to a report in Shkodra, Albania— la brujula verdeThe foundations of a monumental structure have been excavated on a hilltop overlooking the ancient Illyrian city of Bassania, now located in northwestern Albania. The rectangular building was aligned with the cardinal points and was approximately 45 feet in length and 30 feet in width, in proportion to classical Greek temples. The defensive wall markings were probably used to mark the sacred area. Piotr Dyzek of the University of Warsaw suggests that the building was part of the city’s acropolis between the 4th and 2nd centuries.
